COLAMIX is Starpeco's premixed, ready-to-use cold asphalt range — combining high-quality aggregates with our own COLABINDER slow-setting emulsion. Available in bulk or 20-litre pails.
Cold mix asphalt is premixed, ready-to-use asphalt produced by combining graded aggregates with a slow-setting bitumen emulsion (CSS-1h / CSS-60) at ambient temperature. Unlike hot mix asphalt, no heating is required during production, transport, or application.
COLAMIX is produced at Starpeco's Kinyerezi facility and is available in three aggregate grades — each optimised for different application types, from road patching to full pavement construction.
We also provide cold asphalt paving services — our team installs COLAMIX surfaces for roads, private compounds, commercial driveways, and public infrastructure directly.
COLAMIX is available in three aggregate grades — select the blend that matches your application type and pavement requirements.
A fine-aggregate cold mix blend using 10mm maximum aggregate size. The standard COLAMIX for pothole patching, maintenance repairs, and small surface restoration works. Suitable for both temporary and permanent repair applications.
A medium-aggregate blend using 14mm maximum aggregate size. Suitable for road surface layers, private compounds, driveways, and institutional paving projects. Provides a balance of durability and smooth finish for light to medium traffic applications.
A coarse-aggregate premium blend using 20mm maximum aggregate size. Designed for heavier-duty applications — access roads, industrial yards, parking areas, and pavement base courses requiring maximum strength and durability under load.
From the first cold mix asphalt road in 1998 to national standards, government partnerships, and the training of hundreds of artisans — Starpeco has been at the centre of Tanzania's cold mix revolution.
Construction of Dar es Salaam Road in Morogoro town using Cold Mix Asphalt technique — the first application of CMA technology in Tanzania, establishing a long-term performance benchmark.
Tanzania's first bitumen emulsion plant installed at Starpeco's Kinyerezi facility. Concurrently, the low usage of CMA was raised and debated at the Annual Road Convention (ARC) 2014 — putting cold mix asphalt on the national agenda.
The original Dar es Salaam Road in Morogoro town was formally evaluated — confirming the long-term performance of cold mix asphalt under Tanzanian road and climate conditions.
The Low Volume Road Manual was officially published, recommending the use of CMA for road construction and maintenance across Tanzania — a formal policy endorsement of cold mix technology at national level.
Tanzania Bureau of Standards published the national TBS standards for bitumen emulsion — formalising quality and specification requirements for emulsion-based products, including cold mix asphalt.
Starpeco signed a formal MoU with UDSM to promote and advance COLD MIX technology in Tanzania — combining academic research capability with Starpeco's industrial manufacturing and product expertise.
Construction and maintenance of three UDSM campus roads using CMA technology (Namkua, Idete, and Chagongwe). East African harmonised bitumen standards approved. MoU signed between TANROADS and Starpeco — embedding cold mix into national road authority practice.
Training of 400 artisans in cold mix patching techniques, with live demonstration works on Samsa and Magufuli Roads in Dodoma City. CMA further applied in Municipal infrastructure across Tanzania.
Training and demonstration programmes conducted with Tanzania's key state regulatory bodies — TANROADS and ZANROADS — embedding cold mix asphalt as standard practice in Tanzania's national road maintenance programme.
